Flooded Fair Grounds Park

Whenever darkness fills our minds we may know that we are not possessed of the Spirit of God. . . When we are filled with the Spirit of God we are filled with joy, with peace, and with happiness, no matter what our circumstances may be; for it is a spirit of cheerfulness and happiness. The Lord has given unto us the gift of the Holy Ghost. It is our privilege to have that Holy Ghost reign within us, so that from morning till night and from night till morning we shall have the joy, the light, and the revelation thereof.

George Q. Cannon, as quoted by Henry B. Eyring,

The flooding in our area has really disturbed me. Our home has not been affected, but a number of our friends have been evacuated. Some of our friends are now stranded in their house because the roads both above and below them washed out. This picture is of what used to be one of our favorite parks. Over the past few days I have spent hours on the internet searching for the latest details and updates. My activities have only increased my distress.

I shared this quote recently with some friends, and I’m glad I did. I am in more need of its uplifting message than they are. I know that when I feel this way, I am not possessed of the Spirit of God. I need to change that. I know what activities bring the Spirit of God into my life, like listening to inspiring music, serving others, reading the words of God. I need to do something to change my attitude. I know that through my efforts and the Spirit of God, I can have peace and happiness no matter what my circumstances may be.
